Multiple angles of the steampunk moth I did. It started out as a plastic toy, then was modified.
It's beautiful. =o I imagine it fluttering away and landing on a light bulb. Moth: "Mmmmmmmm, yessssss." haha. Now I'm going to spend tonight trying to think of a way to make it actually move, not actually be able to take flight (I find that'll be difficult as fuuuuu' because of the heaviness of metal) but to actually make the wings move.
Thanks very much for the compliments on my gallery! I'm glad you like the steampunk art. And good luck! I have no idea how to make 'functional steampunk' that works and moves. That's beyond my level. Lol. Hey i see you have a tumblr? You should follow me witchesofmars.tumblr.com
Just freakin' cool!!
That is gorgeous!
very detailed work, great job.
I LOVE YOUR GALLERY DUDE
Wow. I sincerely wish this could fly. It'd be amazing to see those geared wings in motion!
I'm not yet that much of a wizard! Maybe one day. and thanks!
ohhhh cool! I love this looks like it was so much fun building it!
this is so great!
Oh! I lov, love, love this!
So clever! Great work!
Thanks so very much! I appreciate it. Swing by my gallery sometime to check out my other steam deviations. But be warned, my gallery is haunted and it's also quite spooky in there. :0
This is an awesome piece, but my only critique is the photography. The yellow/brown background washes out and diminishes the excellence of the butterfly. Use an opposing color instead. Army green would be an excellent choice because it's used in a lot of steampunk and would bring out the richness of this piece.
Yes, I had trouble with the lighting. Thanks for your input.
I use natural lighting, aka sunlight. It can be harsh, so I have a white sheet set up near the jewelry to soften the light and prevent a glare.
I may do that next time. But you see it was 1am when I took the photo!
LOL It's all about timing. I find lightly cloudy days do most of the work FOR me because I don't need to prevent the glare. Practice with artificial lighting. If the bulb cause a yellow color get a lightbulb that produces a natural light. It'll cost more, but I've found that, in the long run, it's more helpful because the colors are truer.
really imaginative piece there
That is holy-crap-on-a-waffle level brilliant. It even has hinges, that makes perfect sense. Never seen hinges on an SP winged creature before. Jolly good show, old bean.
Thanks so much, orange! I'm glad you appreciate it and really happy you haven't left DA for good. Are you feeling inspired yet?
No problem Hayam I've been piratey today and made some craptacular patches, but they're not good enough to flog yet. But it's a start! Yarrr!
Why don't you think they are good? And if you ever want suggestions on your work or what can be added to it if you truly don't feel satisfied with it I can offer ideas. But I think they're beautiful.
waw awesome c; !
